Flitesoft Express 2.10c (Retail)

Flitesoft Express Screen Shot ...

This moving-map program extends the Flightsoft desktop application for use on your Pocket PC.

Features Include: This powerful extension of the Flitesoft PC desktop software provides you with most features you will need while flying. Information is shared with the Flightsoft (PC) desktop. This shared information includes: public and private airfields, W&B data, routes, aircraft data, pilot data, and much more. You can build flight plans and update enroute information directly on the handheld as well as use the Direct To and Emergency airport feature while enroute. The moving map (HSI & EFIS) will show your progress through a flight. The map also supports zoom to route, auto-zoom and night mode. When you connect a GPS (either Bluetooth or cabled) to your device it will show your location as you move along the screen. You will also see airspace, terrain, towers, powerplants, TFRs and more. This application also comes with a useful Weight and Balance calculator. You can optionally add (IFR) approach plates for an extra fee.

Review

Pros: HSI and EFIS overlay are a big plus, emergency airport feature, memory card support, simulation mode, syncs directly with the desktop version of Flitesoft, powerful W&B calculator, sectional map overlay, get updated DUAT weather directly on the PDA.
Cons: Slightly sluggish loading maps, no TFR update from PDA, no logbook entry, no runway layout diagrams, no custom hardware button assignment or PDF documentation.
Platform: Pocket PC version only has partial features from the Windows PC version and the Flitesoft Desktop does not provide any moving map functions (see Vista).
Notes: ** Reviewed on a Toshiba e335 **, re-reviewed on 22 Aug 2005 (version 2.10c). Requires Flitesoft Professional (or greater) for initial configuration and map transfers. You can do flight planning from Windows or directly on the Pocket PC.

"Flitesoft is good. It sold me Express. Express is the WORST handheld solution I've used, and I"ve used several. Support just says "it doesn't do that", no way to know how bad it is beforehand, because the documenation is poor. Direct to was abysimal, and the improvement isn't much better. Slow, slow, slow, even on a hot machine. Cumbersome to use enroute. {version 1.45c}"

"The price is HUGE, performance quite poor. I'd take my chances with PocketFMS (free!) anytime!"

"No map panning, no hardware button support. "Direct To" feature does not work. Support is slow to fix program bugs or other errors with program."
