News: TSA Seeking Laptop Case That Can Clear Security

For those who have to travel through security lines at airports this news might be exciting. I guess over the years I have started to accept the fact that I have to remove my laptop from my laptop bag before it goes through the security x-ray system, well, this may be about to change.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is trying to find a way to let travelers leave laptops in their cases at security checkpoints. They are seeking the right company to invent a "checkpoint friendly" case.

These “new cases could ease security for the 250 million travelers who bring laptops on airplanes each year and speed lines for everyone,” TSA technology chief Mike Golden said.

The TSA is planning to begin prototype testing in June and the testing could eventually set standards for checkpoint-friendly cases. These cases would also require unique features that would signal to airport screeners that the bags can go through X-rays with laptops inside.

I like the idea of anything that can speed up the security lines at airports, so hopefully some good companies will develop some great solutions for this problem.
