Article: Nine Ways to Get Thrown Off an Airplane

Posted by Matthew Justice on Oct 5, 2007

Police Van ...

This article (sorta humorous) is a summary of 9 things you can do to get thrown off of an airplane in the world we live today. Some of these are hard to believe and some are not.

1. Repeat bye-bye, plane - a child kept repeating the phrase "bye-bye, plane" on a Continental Express flight. The flight attendant suggested baby Benadryl for the toddler to the mother. “I'm not going to drug my child,” the mom replied. The plane returned to the gate and the crew removed both the child and mom from the flight.

2. Pray - a Muslim doctor from Winnipeg thrown off a United Airlines flight last year for praying and Orthodox Jewish passenger thrown off a Canadian Air Jazz flight for the same reason.

3. Breast-feed your baby - a passenger was kicked off a Delta flight operated by Freedom Airlines for breast feeding her baby.

4. Stow your economy-class stuff in a first-class bulkhead - this happened on a United Airlines flight when the hairstylist for TV star Mo'Nique tried to store Mo'Nique's hair dryer in a first-class bulkhead where Mo'Nique was seated. They were both removed from the flight after protesting being treaded badly and put on another flight.

5. Wear a T-shirt - remember the movie "Meet the Fockers" a passenger wore a shirt with the spelling slightly different and it featured images of President George W. Bush, Condoleezza Rice and Dick Cheney. She wore the shirt as a joke to amuse her Democrat parents picking her up at the airport. Passengers aboard the Southwest Airlines flight departing Reno complained, so she was removed from the flight. Also don't forget We Will Not Be Silent.

6. Wear a Short Skirt - a passenger was escorted off (temporarily) a Southwest flight and lectured about her inappropriate wardrobe before being allowed to return to the plane.

7. Be a Princess - three princesses from the Qatar royal family were kicked off a British Airways flight after they refused to sit next to male passengers they didn't know (doing so apparently violates their customs). The flight crew tried to shuffle seating assignments to accommodate their complaints but other passengers refused to move. The flight was delayed more than two hours before the captain ordered the princesses off the plane.

8. Try to get some fresh air a French woman in 2005 onboard a Cathay Pacific flight tried to open an airplane door to smoke a cigarette (at 30,000 feet). She admitted later that she had taken a sleeping pill and alcohol before the flight.

9. Go an a Rampage - R.E.M. guitarist Pete Buck famously learned this the hard way when he was arrested after witnesses said he went into a drunken rampage aboard a British Airways flight. Sprayed the cabin crew with yogurt and toppled a cart loaded with breakfast. Buck later blamed his behavior on the reaction between a sleeping pill he'd taken and alcohol (not again).

There are many other ways not listed but this article does show that things you might not think as bad can be interpreted as bad.
