Somehow four members of the environmental activist group Greenpeace were able to access the tarmac at London's Heathrow Airport uncontested, and then climb on top of a British Airways Airbus A320 after it landed from Manchester.

The eco-protesters then unveiled a banner and wrapped it around the tail of the jet that read “Climate Emergency - No 3rd Runway”. This sign is in protest to the planning to build a 3rd runway at Heathrow to help relive traffic congestion on the other two runways.

Although Greenpeace's action was aimed at drawing attention to the effects of airplane emissions on the environment, they also exposed big holes in Heathrow's security. BAA said operations at the airport were not affected and described the protest as “unlawful and irresponsible”. The four were arrested and taken to Heathrow police station at about 1100 GMT, a BAA spokeswoman said.
