News: 737-200 Loses Engine After Ingestion of Foreign Object
Posted by Matthew Justice on Nov 9, 2007There are lots of examples of an airplane ingesting a bird or other object and having to shut down the engine and returning to land without incident, but this time it was different. This is the first one I have heard of where an aircraft has actually lost an engine after the ingestion.
According to the article “During the take-off roll from Cape Town at 15:50 on 7 November the crew of the aircraft, operating as flight CE723, heard a loud noise as the 737 rotated. The aircraft subsequently yawed to the right.”
Shortly after that passengers and airport ground personnel repored that the engine had separated and detached from the wing.
